CHSS Launch One Stop Shop services provision center dubbed 'Huduma Center'

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) has officially launched a “one stop shop” in a bid to improve service delivery and customer satisfaction.

Speaking during the event, Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration and Finance, Prof.  Isaac Mbeche representing the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi said the Huduma Centre was a noble idea which added a lot of value to the University of Nairobi.

Huduma which means “service” in Kiswahili is part of a plan to fully digitize CHSS activities. The automated system is directly connected to various schools, departmental and faculty databases thus making it easy to access records.  Some of the services to be offered include; Academic issues, procurement, Finance, Human Resource/Administration and general customer service enquiries.

Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs, Prof Henry Mutoro said the Huduma Centre will help cut bureaucracy and enhance problem solving in academic issues.  On his part, CHSS Principal, Prof. Enos Njeru said Huduma Centre will offer on-spot services to members of staff, students and the public in an efficient and effective way.


ICT Centre Director, Mr. Ibrahim Otieno said the new system will Improve information flow and enhance access to timely information.

Quality customer service is one of the core values in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences’ 2013-2018 strategic plan.   The college is targeting a customer satisfaction index of over 60%. Currently the customer satisfaction index stands at 55%. The CHSS Huduma Centre is expected to enhance the delivery of high quality customer service to all customers.

The concept of Integrated Service Delivery (ISD), a “one-stop shop” is something that has not been utilized in the university before. The College of Humanities and Social Sciences being the biggest college with a population of 60% of the entire student body in the university is proud to lead other colleges in helping the University of Nairobi achieve its vision and mission.
