The University of Nairobi Management led by the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Principals, Dean and Directors welcomed new students to the University of Nairobi on 23rd January, 2020. Prof. Stephen Kiama welcomed the First Years; He applauded them for getting an opportunity to join the University of Nairobi. He said that the University is ready to nature them professionally through teaching and learning.

Prof. Kiama devoted to steering massive reforms to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the University Systems. Among all, he will concentrate on improving data management and teaching space to improve the quality of teaching and learning. “We must have a robust data management system in this era, we must ensure data is integrated to consolidate data residing in different sources and promote a real-time view of performance,” he said. He urged that once the student data is properly managed there will be no issue of missing marks or any other examination irregularities; it will be easier to monitor and trace students’ information. He ordered all the available infrastructures to be used optimally in teaching and learning. On human resource, Prof. Kiama pointed out that human resources will be aligned properly and virtually everything will be online for easy access. Regarding the University's core values of freedom of thought and expression, He urged students to exercise their freedom of speech. “Don’t keep quiet when Lecturers don’t come to class. Don’t be conditioned into fear of speaking out. Nothing will be done to you for expressing yourself within the law,” he said.
